At West Grove Architecture we believe well designed and naturally lit spaces have a positive impact on people’s lives.
In the home, family life is significantly easier if the spaces we inhabit help us rather than hinder us. Our designs impact how a home is lived in, and transform houses into beautiful yet functional homes which promote wellbeing. We recognise that all homes are a unique combination of spaces and the people within them. Our thorough briefing and concept design sessions will ensure that the developed proposals will work for you and your lifestyle.
The practice was founded in 2018 by Amy Twining. Amy is a mum of three and a RIBA Chartered Architect with over 10 years' experience. Before founding West Grove Architecture, Amy led teams in two award winning architectural practices. Working first as a specialist education architect and then as an associate architect, she has designed and delivered complex multi-million pound projects, both new-builds and refurbishments.
Numerous educational studies show that pupils behave better, learn better and are happier in naturally lit and well-designed spaces. Amy’s experience designing education buildings has given her a number of tools to foresee how spaces can affect wellbeing: these include lighting and acoustic design as well as recognising the benefits of a strong connection to nature. This is what makes our process at West Grove architecture different from the norm.
West Grove Architecture builds on these findings and applies them to residential settings, transforming homes into well designed, happy and secure environments in which your family can grow and flourish. Having worked on nurseries through to university buildings, Amy has an in-depth understanding of the needs of toddlers through to adults; she can help your home work for even the youngest family members whilst ensuring it has built in flexibility to adapt to suit you and your family over time as you grow.
Amy studied for her RIBA Part 1 and 2 at the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University, qualifying in 2003 with a commendation. She completed her Part 3 and her MA in Professional Studies also at Cardiff in 2005. She has remained involved with the Welsh School of Architecture since completing her MA, and is a regular tutor, visiting assessor and occasional speaker on the Part 3 Diploma course.
